Hello everyone! I recently posted on Instagram that I'm planning to create a segment where I can feature hidden gems of drugstore brands including makeup and skincare. This way, we can still look our best without spending too much. My debut entry is a recent discovery by a dear friend, the fashion 21 two-way cake with papaya extract, SPF 35+.
This product comes in a slim tangerine box which shows you directions for use, ingredients and shade. As suggested on the label, this can be applied on top of liquid foundation or any product of the same purpose like tinted moisturizer, BB cream, etc. You can also use this alone by applying with dry or moist sponge for smoother coverage. Finish up by lightly brushing off any excess powder with the use of a sponge or fluffy brush.
This two-way cake has SPF35+ and is infused with papaya extract both contributing to its skin lightening properties. It comes in 4 different shades and I chose #2 because according to the sales assistant it has the most natural finish.
The compact is made of plastic and has a light orange color with a glossy smooth texture. It's so handy and lightweight you wouldn't believe it packs 10 grams worth of powder.
Inside you get a round sponge for application which thankfully has its own compartment apart from the actual powder and a round mirror that's just the right size for when you do your midday do up.
The powder easily gets on the brush with just a light stroke. Dabbing it on top of your foundation or BB cream instantly gives your face a matte finish. I like how it sets your foundation without making it look too dry or cakey. You may notice a distinct scent but the good thing is it doesn't linger and actually fades in a matter of seconds. It stays on for a good 6 hours and still looks decent even without retouch. It does a wonderful job of controlling oiliness that you won't have to blot often. This powder didn't irritate my skin or cause pimple breakouts. It didn't take much effort finding this product since fashion 21 counters are pretty much all over the place, available in any beauty section of malls nationwide. Best of all, it only costs Php 195 while the refill sells for Php 145.
Overall, the fashion 21 two-way cake is a great product to have in your stash whether you're a budding makeup user or an enthusiast such as myself. This powder can serve as a budget-friendly compact which you can alternately use with your usual favorite powder so you won't have to splurge on makeup all the time.
