2017 FAVORITES: Body Care

Saturday, January 27, 2018

Hello everyone! In the past weeks I've posted my 2017 favorites in the skin care and makeup category. Today, I'm back with my 2017 Favorites, body care edition. I may have mentioned several body and hair care products in the past but today is extra special because I'll be including all my favorites for 2017. Let's get started!

SALE: S&R Membership Shopping

Monday, October 6, 2014

Hey guys! I couldn't believe I'd breeze my way through S&R during their recently concluded sale. I've been a silent member for months and never got to shop until a couple of weeks ago when I didn't pass on the chance to check out the items on sale.

(L) Dove Nutritive Solutions Daily Moisture Shampoo  |  1.18 L  |  Php 499  (SALE: Php 399)
(R) Dove Nutritive Solutions Daily Moisture Conditioner  |  1.18 L  |  Php 499 (SALE: Php 399)
These Dove Nutritive Solutions Daily Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner are the reasons why I keep coming back to S&R. They're fairly priced and cheaper even on regular tag. I love that they come in humongous 1.18 L bottles with pump dispensers. Considering I have long tresses that reach my elbows, a bottle lasts around 5 to 6 months! Imagine how these can last if you have shorter hair. I love how the shampoo cleanses my hair thoroughly leaving it feeling soft and silky. The conditioner is as wonderful because it truly nourishes my hair leaving it tangle-free.

Aveeno Active Naturals Daily Moisturizing Lotion  |  532 mL |  Php 999.95 (Buy 1 Take 1)
The next thing I look forward to whenever I go to an S&R sale is the BUY 1 TAKE 1 promo on Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. I love how this product is mild and hypoallergenic yet keeps my skin moisturized the entire day. This is why I never fail to avail the promo even if I still have a bottle in stock.

(L) Dove Gentle Exfoliating Beauty Bar  |  113 g  |  Php 379.95  (6 bars)
(R) Dove Advanced Care 48 h Anti-perspirant Deodorant  |  74 g  |  Php 199.95
I also got a couple more of Dove products that I'm quite curious to try. First is the Dove Gentle Exfoliating Beauty Bar. I don't remember hearing about this product in the past or else I would've tried it earlier. I'm excited about the promise of renewed skin without the harm effects of peeling because this bar is also made of moisturizing cream that won't dry your skin. Another Dove product I got is the Advanced Care 48h Anti-perspirant Deodorant for sensitive skin. My under arms aren't sensitive but I still got 2 of these because I heard from a friend that this variety works so well in whitening the underarms. I'll let you know if they do on mine too!

Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream  |  566 g  |  Php 749.95
I've always adored Cetaphil and have been wanting to buy a tub of their Moisturizing Cream since I saw one in Greenhills. In the past days, I've developed rashes on my cheeks and forehead so I got to try this mixed with a mild topical steroid and they worked so well after just a single use!

Spectra Jumbo Cotton Balls  |  300 pcs  |  Php 99.95
Delon Premium Cosmetic Cotton Rounds  |  100 pcs  |  Php 99.95
These were a sight to behold! Being a skin care junkie makes me all giddy and excited about cotton. The cotton balls are as cheap as the ones I get from a medical supplier. The cotton rounds are better than my last  from The Body Shop. This is more textured hence best used to remove makeup.

Crest 3D White Luxe Multi-Care Whitening Rinse  |  946 ml  |  Php 349.95
I'm not so crazy over mouth wash but I like to whiten my teeth every chance I get so the label "Glamorous White" won me over. I'll see if this product truly does what it claims and I'll keep you posted.

(L) Kirkland Signature Vitamin C 1000 mg  |  500 tabs  | Php 1,299.95
(R) Kirkland Signature Vitamin E 400 I.U.  |  500 softgels  |  Php 999.95
These supplements are hands down the most cost-effective purchase I made. I've been buying supplements from the local drug stores and supermarkets in the past years and never did I realize how much cheaper buying from S&R is. Good thing I got to browse through the shelves where these were displayed on my way to the counter.

eos lip balm  |  5 spheres  |  Php 749.95

Last of all is my most cherished purchase, a pack of eos lip balms! This has got to be my best find. I am so obsessed with eos lip balms that I intend to buy more. Good thing I don't have 3 of those included in the pack because I'm sharing them with a good friend. Each balm only costs Php 149.99 which is definitely cheaper compared to buying them from online sellers individually for Php 250.

Overall, my experience with shopping at S&R was worth every effort. I got to buy a lot of discounted items and regular items that are still cheaper than when bought in local stores. I highly recommend you be a member and start to benefit from perks of being one. The only downside of shopping at S&R, most specifically during sale, is the big crowd that awaits you.

Any thoughts on S&R shopping or on any product mentioned above? Don't be shy, comment away! Thanks for reading and have a wonderful week ahead.

AVEENO: Positively Radiant Brightening Cleanser

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

Hey guys! I recently slept over at a friend's house and it was like college all over agian with late night movies, pizza and girl talk until the break of dawn. Next morning, the excellent lighting in their room inspired me to take pictures of my next blog entry.

Just recently, a close friend got us Aveeno products from S&R during their week long sale. Their body lotions were selling like pancakes at buy one take one and of course we didn't let that pass. Now I can safely say our skin's hydration is secured until next year. Other products from Aveeno were also on sale but one particular product caught our interest even when regularly priced, their positively radiant brightening cleanser.

Aveeno Positively Radiant brightening cleanser Php 500
This Aveeno positively radiant brightening cleanser comes in a 200 ml bottle with a pump. I'm actually amazed of the size which is quite reasonable for its tag.

I'm not sure if you can make out something from this image but the pump is labelled just below the spout and can be twisted either way to open or close it.

What immediately got my attention were the tiny golden sparkles embedded in the cleanser. It also smells quite good, feels smooth and gently lathers on your face.

I love this brightening cleanser from Aveeno because it can be used for all skin types. The bottle is also a plus for me since it comes with an easy to use pump dispenser. A little amount goes a long way, just a single pump is needed to cover your face and neck. It leaves your face clean of dirt and impurities without drying. You're left with skin that feels smooth and moisturized. This cleanser also didn't cause any adverse skin reactions or break outs. I think the only problem I see with this is accessibility since I don't see this often displayed in local stores but you may visit any S&R branch near you to buy this or other Aveeno products.

Overall, I find the Aveeno positively radiant brightening cleanser amazing that I intend to use it everyday. I will repurchase once it runs out which I bet won't be anytime soon because I'm guessing this 200 ml bottle will last me a long time. I do recommend it to those who want an effective cleanser that's mild enough to use even for sensitive skin.

My Most Repurchased Products

Friday, November 16, 2012

We all have products that we LOVE so much they never fail to make it in our shopping list. These are items we keep on buying or stuff we always come back to even if we tried other brands. Just last night, I was mentally listing down products I'm running out of while doing my nightly skin care routine. I realized I have more than a few products I'm pretty much loyal to in the past years.

YSA's erythromycin and acne lotion are the two toners I can't live without. I use them hand in hand to prevent and treat pimple break outs I never fail to have every month. I've been a loyal user, believer and advocate of these medicated toners since I was 18, the time I started seeking professional skin care consult.

I've been using Kojic acid soap since it became a fad during my post graduate years. Though I use other bar soaps, bath gels and body wash from different brands, I always go back to using this for my face and entire body.

Olay total effects serum is the very first anti-aging product I tried and has become a mainstay in my skin care routine. I've repurchased this more than a few times because it delivers visible results and I really haven't found any substitute that can match this serum's performance.

I got to try The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil a little over a year ago and it did wonders on my pimple prone skin. So much so that I bought the entire tea tree line from The Body Shop including facial wash/foam, toner, moisturizer and even concealer. Though I haven't been reaching for this lately, it's still included in my most repurchased items.

Burt's bees lip shimmer is one of the greatest lip products to hit the beauty industry. I love the shades fig and rhubarb because they match my skin tone perfectly. They give just the right hint of color to your lips leaving them with a naturally moisturized finish.

The Face Shop's Flower shimmer finish pact is my most repurchased compact a few years ago. I remember replenishing this even if I still have more left to use. Sad thing is they don't make them anymore. This powder is not at all too shimmery, it gives your face just the right glow for a naturally radiant finish. I still haven't found anything like this from other brands but I do hope The Face Shop will come to their senses and get this amazing product back on their shelves.

Moschino funny  is my mostly repurchased perfume because it smells so clean and fresh. It doesn't give off a strong scent and it can be used in any occasion. I love that it stays on for a decent amount of time.

Belo essentials lotion with spf15 has been my daily moisturizer and sunblock  for the past 2 years. I actually mentioned this instead of the newer version that has spf 30 because this is the particular product I've repurchased for several times before the new version was released.

Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion is another body lotion I've repurchased for so many times. I love that S&R usually have this on sale because my friends and I get to stock up. I usually apply this at night before bedtime to keep my skin moisturized overnight.

Tony Moly's luminous sheer base is one of my TM favorites that I've repurchased several times and luckily almost always during a promo. I recently got this for 50% off a few weeks ago and I got it in the same discounted tag during my previous purchase.

Aveeno leave-on treatment is the only hair care product I've repurchased over and over. I don't usually put on hair treatment products but I do love maintaining my hair with Aveeno. This stuff smells quite like vanilla which I don't really like, but the scent goes off after application.

I was planning on making this list really short but I can't help sharing all my most repurchased and replenished products. How about you, what stuff have you been repurchasing? I would love to hear about them so we can compare notes. Just key them in the comments section below.

AVEENO: Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

I can't begin to tell you how much I love BB Creams (Blemish Balm Cream) and how I've been looking forward to the day when two of my favorite skin care brands, Olay and Aveeno, come up with their own line of BB products. A lot of other manufacturers from drug store to high end have released their own versions of this much talked about product except for these two.

But reality check would tell you that they do have their own version in the form of tinted moisturizers, Definity Color Recapture for Olay and Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer for Aveeno. Unfortunately, both products are not readily available in Manila but I was lucky enough to receive the latter as a gift from my fiance who got it from Walgreens.

What the label says:
"These are the only tinted moisturizers with clinically proven active naturals total soy complex to brighten and even skin tone while providing SPF 30 sun protection. Natural light-reflecting minerals and lightweight coverage seamlessly blend away imperfections and immediately enhance skin's natural radiance."

*Active Ingredients
     Homosalate 5%, Octinoxate 7.5%, Octisalate 5%, Oxybenzone 2%

This product comes in a 75ml bottle with a pump which in my opinion is a generous amount for its tag. I love that the pump can be twisted either way to lock and unlock the spout.

Aveeno positively radiant tinted moisturizer (medium) SPF 30

Aveeno after blending

The texture resembles that of a liquid foundation but a little thinner in consistency. It spreads easily and blends effortlessly. It gives light to medium coverage as opposed to a liquid foundation so you might be needing a concealer for darker spots or areas like under the eyes. It has light-reflecting particles that make your skin glow without the glittery effect.

What I don't really like about it is that it looks oily on my skin when used alone so you might want to top this with a finishing powder. I'm also not too crazy about the scent which is quite strong, but good thing it goes off in a while.

Since I don't have other tinted moisturizers, I swatched this in comparison to Tony Moly luminous aura BB cream and L'oreal white perfect liquid foundation instead. Notice how similar they are when it comes to texture.

(R) L'oreal white perfect liquid foundation SPF 18

Aveeno tinted moisturizer was the easiest to blend followed by Tony Moly and L'oreal though you have to bear in mind that these are three different products.
Both Aveeno and Tony Moly appeared to have tiny specks of light-reflecting particles while L'oreal was matte finish without the shimmer.

After blending, Aveeno appeared to give sheer coverage while Tony Moly and L'oreal had medium to full coverage.

Overall, I'm not so taken by this product but I do like that it looks natural on your face when used with a matte powder. Another plus would be the SPF 30 with UVA/UVB protection.
Do I recommend this to friends? I will to those with normal to dry skin types who have minor skin imperfections and only need light coverage. I don't recommend this to those who need medium to full coverage and those with oily skin. If you have combination skin type like me, again I suggest you top it with a matte powder. Will I repurchase this? Aveeno products have always been so effective on my skin based on years of personal experience this is why I regret to say I will not repurchase this particular product. I will however continue using this, maybe mix it with a matte primer or top it with loose powder and see how it goes.

TIDBITS:
  • Aveeno positively radiant tinted moisturizer SPF 30 costs $16.99 (Php 730) at Walgreens.
