Hey guys! I can't believe it's midyear already and it's back to school for most of us. I was actually in a bookstore the other day and found myself reminiscing the times I spent hours shopping for school stuff. I never thought I'd still be thrilled about pencils at my age but this time I'm talking about a different kind.. The kind every girl needs to have in her makeup stash. Cosmetic pencils have always intimidated me simply because I'm afraid I'd mess up. So imagine my delight when I finally plunged in and realized they're not too bad after all. The top three pencils in my stash are (in order of discovery) The Body Shop Eye Definer Pencil, Nichido Lip Pencil and Nature Republic By Flower Wood Eyebrow Pencil.

Hey guys! Have you ever had a bad case of dry lips? The kind that lipstick can't hide and lip balms can't soothe. Mine was just a couple of weeks ago and it was so bad I almost didn't want to attend an important event. I initially felt my upper lip roughen and it pretty much went downhill from there. Next thing I noticed, my lips were peeling and cracking painfully. I rummaged through my stuff trying to look for a lip balm and while I was at it, I found some things that I used a lot in the past but since new products came in, I totally forgot I still have them.

Hey guys! I guess most of you will agree with me when I say that it's really interesting to know what other ladies keep in their makeup bags. I think these types of hauls are very honest and truly reliable. Besides, no one would even bother keeping a product in their stash if it doesn't do wonders right? Come to think of it, I've had this blog running for almost four years now but I can't seem to remember ever doing a what's-in-my-makeup-bag post. Well, it's never too late to do one so read on and find out what I love bringing with me all day, everyday.
Sunday, June 1, 2014
Hey guys! How was your summer? I hope you enjoyed yours as much as I did mine. Anyway, I thought of doing a monthly post of my favorite products but I don't think I can really commit to that so I'll just make a "current favorites" entry probably every chance I get, hopefully every quarter.
(L to R) Shiseido Ibuki Purifying Cleanser - Php 1,495 per 125 ml Avene Thermal Spring Water - Php 900 per 150 ml Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum - Php 5,650 per 30 ml
I have so many favorites but I narrowed them down to 3 items per category. So let's start with skin care. The Shiseido Ibuki Purifying Cleanser has been my go-to facial wash since I got it at 20% off a couple of months ago. I love how the fine granules feel so delicate on my skin yet very effective in cleansing my face. A little goes a long way so you only need a pea size and you're good to go.
Next is the Avene Thermal Spring Water and I cannot begin to describe how wonderful this product is. It sprays on like mist and feels so refreshing once it touches your skin. This product has been very helpful in hydrating and cooling my skin especially on hot days. I believe I got this at half the price from my last trip to Singapore but they're available in the local drug stores as well.
Last on skin care category is Shiseido White Lucent Intensive Spot Targeting Serum, an absolute favorite of mine among all the White Lucent products of Shiseido. A very effective spot correcting concentrate that helps hasten recovery time from skin discolorations. It may be a little on the expensive side but it's worth every cent.
(L to R) The Body Shop Organic Cotton Rounds - Php 150 per pack UCB Refreshing Body Mist - Php 499 per 250 ml Physiogel Intensive Cream - Php 575 per 50 ml
Now for other body care products, I am loving The Body Shop Organic Cotton Rounds so much that I've been reaching for them every single time. The textured side is best for removing makeup while the flat side is great for applying your toner.
I ran out of GAP dream cologne and since they're not widely available, I decided to get the next best thing I found in SM North, United Colors of Benetton Refreshing Body Mist in Arousing Watermelon. It has a fresh fruity scent which lasts for about an hour or 2 after you spray it on. I love that it's priced reasonably and that you can choose from a dozen of floral and fruity scents.
Who could resist a product that offers intense hydration? I know I couldn't which is why I'm so thankful for the Physiogel Intensive Cream I got from BDJ Box. I love that it doesn't feel too greasy and that the moisturizing effect lasts for several hours. I find myself using this often especially when my skin gets really dry around December and January.
(L to R) Ben Nye Luxury Powder - Php 900 per 85 g Max Factor Max Effect Lip Gloss - Php 400 per 13 ml NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil - Php 300 per 0.25 g
As for makeup products, I currently adore Ben Nye Luxury Powder in Cameo. I do have the Banana shade but I've been enjoying how Cameo instantly brightens my under eye areas. I also use this to buffer some of my compact powders that appear darker than my natural color.
The Max Factor Max Effect Lip Gloss is an amazing discovery for me. I got it for free from Miss Shen's 4th Anniversary Giveaway and I misjudged it thinking it's the same as Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss that can only give your lips a subtle tint with lots of shine but I was wrong. This Max Factor Max Effect Lip Gloss in #14 Rubyliscious is highly pigmented and gives just the right amount of shine. It may not be long lasting but I really don't mind reapplying it.
Next makeup favorite is the NYX Auto Eyebrow Pencil in Dark Brown. I raved about this before and I'm still raving about it now. I love that it's an eyebrow pencil and brush in one stick. The pencil is tapered hence no need for sharpening and the brush really comes in handy although you can still use other tools like a spoolie for blending. It glides on smoothly and stays on the entire day.
(L to R) Kerastase Elixir Ultimate - Php 2,260 per 125 ml Paganini Untangler - Php 149 Goody Metal Clip - Php 299 per set of 3 clips
Now for hair care products, I've been obsessed with Kerastase Elixir Ultimate in the past days. I actually forgot I have it for a while and only got to see it last week when I was decluttering my closet. Anyway, this elixir smells heavenly and feels velvety to touch. It may feel a little greasy on first application but it eventually transforms into a silky finish without clumping your hair strands.
This Paganini Hair Untangler has been my favorite since the day I bought it. You can use it on wet or dry strands and it untangles hair without hurting your scalp. The blunt bristles feel very relaxing and the big handle gives you a nice grip while combing.
This hair clip from Goody is an all-time favorite. I discovered this small wonder years ago and they don't make one anymore which is really a downer considering how great this clip is. It comes in a set of 3 and has a small and medium size. This one in particular is small and is best used for smaller pony tails. It looks really simple and very classic. You lock it sideways and your hair is clipped neatly into place without tugging the strands.
(L to R) Freshlook Dailies Illuminate in Rich Brown - Php 800 per box of 5 pairs EO Sauflon Comfort Drops - Php 95 per 30 ml Esprit Sunglasses - Php 7,000
My eye care favorites include Dailies Freshlook Illuminate in Rich Brown. It comes in a box of 5 pairs and I was able to buy one box but a friend recently wanted to try them and found out you can't buy just one box anymore. They are now being sold as a set of 3 boxes. Anyway, I love that these make your eyes pop but in a natural way. They feel really soft, although I find these a little harder to remove than my regular extended lenses. Freshlook recommends this for one time use but I was able to try using them for 2 days. They were still soft and pretty much intact. On the 3rd day, they felt a little weird so I decided to discard them.
The EO Sauflon Comfort Drops has never left my retouch kit for the longest time. I love that it instantly moisturizes my contact lenses without the sting. It instantly refreshes your eyes and removes any residue. Best thing about this is the very affordable price of less than Php 100.
I was told by my Sociology teacher in college to protect my eyes from sun exposure all the time with shades that offer UV protection. I couldn't relate back then because I had prescription glasses and wearing shades wasn't a good idea. Fast forward to graduate school, after learning how to wear contact lenses, I started enjoying the perks of using sunglasses. My current favorite is this Esprit aviator-like glasses. It may look dark in the image but it's light brown under sunlight. I love how it effectively protects my eyes from the glaring rays of the sun especially in the summer.
Myra e 400 IU - Php10+ per capsule
Another favorite of mine is the Myra e 400 IU supplement which I started using around 2 weeks ago. I noticed having less breakouts and better skin days since I started taking one capsule a day. I may need to use this continuously to see the long term effects but I guess it's been okay so far.
So that's it! My current favorites from various brands. I do hope I can keep up with a monthly favorites entry to keep you more updated on what products I love. Do we have any favorite products in common? I'd love to know your thoughts so please share them on the comments section below. Thank you for reading and have an awesome week ahead!

Hey guys! The moment I saw a SALE sign board on display at The Body Shop in Trinoma, I couldn't just pass by without at least taking a peek. Okay, I ended up buying a few essential stuff and some that I'm just a bit curious to try.
Vitamin E Lip Care SPF 15 (Php 199/4.2g tube)
This lip balm is probably my best buy in the bunch. It's originally sold for Php 395 but I got it for only Php 199. Although the discounted price still appears more expensive than other lip balms in the market, I like this product just the same because it lives up to its claims of moisturizing and protecting your lips. It's opaque cream in color and has a faint vanilla scent. You can tell it's on your lips yet it doesn't feel thick or waxy. I love that it offers protection from UVA and UVB rays. You can wear this alone or top it with any shade of lipstick.
Body Polisher (Php 250)
I have used several different forms of body scrubs but this one from The Body Shop is my most repurchased. It has a slightly rough net-like texture that I really like. I have to warn you not to rub this vigorously on first use because it can be a bit scratchy when new. I love that the size is just right so you can easily use it around your back. You can also manipulate this body polisher anyway you want like crumple it into a ball and scrub away. It lasts a really long time unlike other generic polishers that dull quickly.
Facial Brush (Php 150)
I have to be honest that this item failed my expectations big time. It would've been a good substitute for my Clarisonic during travels because of the handy size but the bristles are too stiff that it hurts when used even on light pressure. First time I tried it, I never wanted to use it again. It was really that bad but I will still give this a second chance and probably use it ever so carefully. If you haven't bought this, I highly suggest you not to and invest on high quality facial brush like the Clarisonic or if you lack the budget you may want to try Shiseido's face brush which I think retails for Php 1,000.
Eye Mask (Php 350)
Now this mask is a neutral purchase because I feel like I don't fancy it that much to use it regularly. It's bigger than the others I bought years ago. It has a velcro lock so you can adjust it to fit snugly on your eye area. I left this a bit longer than needed in the fridge which is probably why I wasn't able to tolerate the cold feeling at first. I thawed it for a minutes before trying again and it was quite refreshing and relaxing at the same time. I think this mask is great especially when used on hot days. My only problem is I tend to skip it because I keep forgetting to put it in the fridge.
Organic Cotton Rounds (Php 150/pack)
These cotton rounds are my essentials because I use it several times everyday. The cotton is textured on one side which is best for removing makeup and smooth on the other which can be used in applying your toner. I love that each pad is thick and that the edges are sewn, this way the pad maintains its shape even when heavily soaked. I also love that these are organic hence gentle on the skin. A pack of 100 pads cost Php 150 but I availed their promo and bought 2 rolls for only Php 250.
Overall, I think my last trip to The Body Shop was worth it. I'm currently loving the lip balm, body scrub and cotton rounds. I'm neutral about the eye mask and not enjoying the face brush but I plan to give it another go and see if I can make it work better the next time. Do share your thoughts on any of the items I've posted and if you have any questions, feel free to leave them on the comments section below. Thanks so much for reading and have a great day!

Hey guys! Don't you just love loyalty cards that earn points when you purchase? I know I do especially from my most trusted and frequently visited stores like The Body Shop and Tony Moly. Over the years, I've accumulated quite a number of loyalty cards from different establishments that it came to the point when not all of them can fit in my purse anymore. There were times when I could have availed great promos but didn't because I left the card in my other purse.
Good thing I got Perkd just in time. Perkd is an application that you can download on your iphone, itouch and android phone or tablet. It allows you to transform your membership and loyalty cards in virtual form. This way, you don't need to have all your cards with you just to avail and enjoy promos and freebies. You won't miss out on perks again! What's even better is all your cards are automatically backed up. Just sign-in to restore all your cards when you switch to a new gadget.

To get started, simply install the Perkd application from app store or play store for free.

Sign up for a new account by entering your name, gender, date of birth and mobile number.

You will then receive a 6 digit verification code which also serves as your password via SMS. Enter the code to get your Perkd membership card.

You may change your password by clicking your Perkd ID and "manage account" button.
To start creating your virtual cards, click the plus sign (+) on the upper right corner of the screen.

Search for the card under "categories" or simply type in the name of the card after clicking the search button.

Remeber that not all cards are supported by Perkd but you can suggest cards to add by clicking "Preferences" on the lower right corner of the screen.

So far I have virtual cards of Love Your Body, Tony Moly, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Resorts World Manila, Resorts World Genting, Priority Club and Golden Circle. I also suggested L'oreal Exclusif card so I'm just waiting for a reply from Perkd.

Hello everyone! Last weekend I finally had the time to clean my makeup brushes. I used St. Ive's moisturizing olive cleanser which I haven't been using lately to wash my face. I figured I can use it to clean my brushes instead of the usual antibacterial soap mixed with olive oil. I also used my current hair conditioner, Dove Colour Radiance, to keep the bristles soft and silky.

After accomplishing my long overdue assignment, I thought of making a comparison between my old practice of air drying the brushes while laid flat on a dry paper towel versus drying them with bristles pointed downward using brush guards.

After accomplishing my long overdue assignment, I thought of making a comparison between my old practice of air drying the brushes while laid flat on a dry paper towel versus drying them with bristles pointed downward using brush guards.
The results? Drying was a little faster for those without brush guards but didn't differ much. The unguarded brushes air dried for approximately 36 hours while those with brush guards weren't completely dry until 40 hours. The 4 hour difference may be due to the fact that air flow inside the jar wasn't as good as in an open
space hence the slight delay.
The shape of each brush, regardless of brush guard use, was appropriately maintained except for my sigma eye shadow brush. I was actually annoyed that the bristles were slightly out of place despite using the brush guard. The brush might have slipped downward causing some of the bristles to flare out but good thing it was reshaped after fixing it in place and leaving it overnight.
Fall out of bristles wasn't an issue for both methods contrary to beliefs that drying your brushes horizontally allows water to reach the ferrule and damage the bristles earlier. I've been horizontally drying my kabuki and face brushes from The Body Shop for 5 years now and I haven't seen any significant amount of strands fall off. I think what matters more is how you wash your brushes. If you avoid soaking the ferrule while cleaning your brush and dry it properly in room temperature, you'll do just fine.
Overall, the brush guard isn't that bad but it's also not that difficult to live without. If you're on a budget and still considering to get them for your brushes, I tell you now that they're not a must for everyone. If you're the kind who travels much or wants to protect your brushes in storage then getting this may satisfy you. In the end it all boils down to how you prefer to take care of your stuff. Just remember that not everything being offered is necessary.

Hey everyone! I recently reviewed a product from Kiehl's that's suitable for pimple prone skin like mine. I've been planning to buy one since I ran out of samples but the hefty tag made me put it off and instead look through my stash to find anything I can use for the meantime. Luckily, I found this..
The Body Shop Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion (Php 800++)
I used to rave about Tea Tree 2 years ago and how it helped me control and prevent pimple break outs. My first ever purchase was a tea tree travel set from The Body Shop containing a facial wash, toner, oil and night lotion. I eventually got the full size and one of them, the Tea Tree Blemish Fade Night Lotion, is still more than half full so I figured I could give it another try.
This comes in a 30 ml slim container with a pump dispenser. A couple of pumps is just right to cover your entire face. The texture is pretty much the same as lotion that spreads effortlessly on your face and melts easily on your skin. I love that it gives just the right amount of moisture without making you look and feel greasy. it has a hint of menthol scent which I really love because it gives you a fresh and clean feeling. I've tried this on active pimples and they don't sting at all. I feel like they dry the pimples without any visible peeling or flaking of dead skin.
Overall, I really love this product although I don't consider it my holy grail for pimple treatment and prevention, it's still a decent moisturizer that doesn't irritate my skin or cause me more break outs. I may still consider buying one but not right after I finish one bottle. I do recommend it to everyone who's still on a look out for a good moisturizer for pimple prone skin.
How about you, what do you think of Tea Tree? Have you tried any Tea Tree products? Do share your thoughts on the comments section below. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

I've been having nasty break outs over the past couple of days and it's been driving me crazy! It first appeared near my upper lip followed by a bigger one on my chin then another one on my cheek. I'm actually used to having pimple break outs around my period but not as troublesome as this. I hate having to go out with blemishes that attract much attention, good thing I went through my stash and found myself a quick fix.
This is The Body Shop Tea Tree Concealer which I think I bought around 2 years ago when Tea Tree was at its hype. I've been using it as an eye makeup primer ever since I gave up on using concealers. Not that it's an awful product, I'm just having a hard time using it to cover pimple marks because it somehow has the tendency to accentuate rather than hide the flaws. I guess the shade doesn't really match my skin tone.
This concealer is packaged like a lip product which I love because it's so handy that you can just slip it in your pocket or purse. It's virtually scent free and has a nice creamy texture that doesn't harden over time. You can easily apply this on your skin and it blends well after patting it with your fingers. You can also top it with loose or finishing powder to even out the shade.
What's really awesome about this is I finally got it to work wonders for me this time! I'm so happy I didn't throw or give it away because it effectively concealed my unwanted pimples. It didn't cake or get oily and it lasted the entire day with just a single touch-up. Notice the images above how my scar (encircled) seemed to be hidden (arrow) after application of The Body Shop Tea Tree Concealer. The only problem I see is it only comes in 2 shades, light (01) and medium (02), good thing medium matches my skin tone. I can't recall how much I bought this but I'm pretty sure it has a reasonable tag.
Overall, I have a new found respect for this product because it really works. I am definitely making this my official concealer and will repurchase once it runs out. I do recommend it to those who are still on a hunt for a good concealer especially when dealing with pimples since tea tree also doubles as a pimple treatment because of its antibacterial properties.

First of all I would like to greet everyone a happy and prosperous new year. I love that we get to have another chance to make things right or at least better. Though you can always start to improve yourself any day of the year it still feels different to do it on a momentous day when everyone else is sharing the same passion in the spirit of the holidays.
On to the real topic of this post, I figured that my kikay kit (vanity kit) needs to be updated for the new year. I'm making just a few changes so I can use other stuff I love.
I'm using this pouch from The Body Shop's tea tree travel set I bought a couple of years ago. It really pays to keep free pouches from gift sets. Anyway, you have to congratulate me on this because my vanity essentials are now down to 9 items.
(1) Kleenex oil control film is a must-have especially for those who tend to have oily skin in the middle of the day.
(2) The Body Shop all-in-one face base is my current favorite finishing powder since I started using it a couple of months ago. Just a few dabs help even out your complexion and reduce shine.
(3) The Body Shop mini hairbrush is a gift I got years ago but I never got to use it until lately. I love that the bristles are blunt at the tips and don't hurt your scalp when used. The size is just right to fit in any pouch without taking too much space.
(4) Sanrio nail cutter or any nail cutter for that matter can come in handy anytime you need some nail clipping and don't have the time to have your nails done in a salon. I prefer this because it's designed to trap pieces of your clipped nail so you can use it anywhere without making a mess.
(5) Smashbox O-glow is my not so favorite cheek tint but after watching Miss Michelle Phan's way of applying cheek stains by patting quickly around the apples of her cheeks, I gave this another try and I'm glad to say that I'm loving the results.
(6) Tony Moly Cat's Wink Mascara is one of the slimmest full size mascara I've seen. Though it's not my most favorite, it's still a good mascara that adds volume and a little bit of length to your lashes.
(7) Clinique Chubby Stick in super strawberry has been an indispensable item. I love the variety of colors available and how it instantly moisturizes you lips. The tapered tip that resembles a jumbo crayon enables it to reach the slim corners of your lips but the downside is it gets blunt after a while.
(8) Benefit Posie Tint gives your lips a natural flushed look and is best coupled with a lip balm or gloss for a more moisturized finish.
(9) The Body Shop retractable brush is actually a blush brush that can double as a face brush. I love that it's retractable so the bristles are protected from being deformed. The bristles are so soft and densely packed that it glides smoothly on your face.
So that's it, I can't believe I'm surviving with just a few items in my kikay kit. Let's see if I can trim it down again next year with just the most essential stuff. How about you, what do you carry around in your vanity kit?

Hi everyone! I've been thinking of a year end special entry and I thought of doing Mykikaystuff 2012 Favorites by having a run down of my top products from different categories. But when beauty boxes emerged and became talk of the town since October of this year, I've been thinking what would it be like if I was to create my own beauty box. So I decided to do just that! Hold your horses, I'm not doing this for real. I just want you to know what products I would love to include in a beauty box if I were to make one.
Just a heads up, products I've assembled in this imaginary box may be a little over the top since most of them are my ultimate favorites. I call it Wish Box, very appropriate for it contains every product a girl like me would wish for.
This box originally contains a set of perfume and lotion from Gilly Hicks. I just positioned the bow to cover the label and made my own using the A+ Signature app from my Ipad.
Since this is just a make believe box, I went all out and included all the stuff I use on a regular basis and some that I think are worth mentioning. If you're subscribed to BDJ Box or Saladbox or have seen reviews on them, you would notice that none of the products in my Wish Box have been included in any of them.
This might also serve as a suggestion box so people behind these beauty boxes may have an idea on what other products we subscribers wish to recieve every month.
I assembled this Wish Box keeping in mind that I can include any product I like. So I reviewed my daily routine and chose the products as I would use them.
The Shu Uemura Whitefficient cleansing oil is a recent favorite and has become a mainstay in my daily routine. I got to try this via Sample Room and I've been hooked since then. It effectively removes all traces of makeup and accumulated dirt leaving your skin fully cleansed and feeling supple without being greasy.
Clinique mild liquid facial soap is one of my favorite facial cleansers because it truly matches my dry combination skin type. It adequately cleanses without drying your skin and leaves it feeling fresh and dirt free.
The Floria Hydra Energy toner is one of the best products of Tony Moly. This watery gel type toner removes remaining dirt after cleansing your face. It doesn't dry your skin, instead it locks in moisture hence improving skin texture.
Clinique dramatically different moisturizing lotion maintains optimal moisture for dry and dry combination skin leaving it feeling soft and smooth. It doesn't cause any skin irritation or break outs. True to its name, this moisturizer dramatically improves your skin with continued use.
Celeteque DermoScience Brightening Eye Tuck plus Dark Circles Lightener instantly hydrates the skin around your eyes leaving them moisturized without looking puffy. It lightens your under eye giving it a brighter appearance. It's mild enough to use everyday and it promises to deliver results in 4 weeks. I actually got it free from Sample Room, you may click here for a detailed review.
Garnier Pure Active anti-imperfections roll-on is ideal for acne prone skin because it has antibacterial ingredients that can fight emerging and active pimples. It also has dual action formula that can eliminate blackheads and remove skin imperfections. I use this on emerging and active pimples because they dry faster and don't darken as much.
Tony Moly Luminous Goddess Aura BB Cream sits at the top of my list among the array of BB creams I've used. It glides smoothly on application and blends well with your complexion. It has a creamy texture that doesn't cake over time. It provides medium coverage and it leaves your skin with a bright dewy finish. Click here to see my previous review.
The Body Shop all-in-one face base has a fine texture that feels light and comfortable on your skin. This offers light to medium coverage and has a matte finish that looks natural without caking. It doesn't dry your skin or cause irritation and break outs. Click here to know more about this product.
Wet n' Wild Color Icon Knock on Wood is so pigmented that you only need a few strokes to achieve a rich display of color. It gives just the right amount of shimmer to give you a glowing finish. The colors are wearable on any occasion from a simple day look to a dramatic evening look.
Tony Moly Cat's Wink Mascara enhances the volume and length of your lashes with just a few strokes. It dries almost instantly and doesn't feel heavy on your lashes. It doesn't irritate the eyes and can be easily removed by a cleansing cloth.
Tony Moly Berry Berry magic lip tint is my ultimate favorite lip product. It visibly stains your lips giving it a healthy glow. It has decent staying power and touch-ups are quite unnecessary except after a meal or drink. I've been using this for 9 months now but the pot still looks full so this will definitely last long.
Kleenex oil blotter is an effective product that removes excess oil leaving your skin feeling fresh after each use. It doesn't irritate your skin and offers a quick fix in the middle of the day when it tends to get oily.
Organix Moroccan Argan penetrating oil restores shine and softness as it strengthens your hair. It also provides you with perfectly moisturized and silky straight hair that looks great and smells divine.
Sally Hansen Maximum Growth nourishing nail color effectively reinforces soft, bitten, weaken or thin nails protecting them from further damage. It also visibly lengthens the nails faster in just one week. The natural color of this polish makes it wearable on any occasion.
This concludes my Wish Box, a fantasy box containing all the stuff that I love and hope to be featured in beauty boxes soon. I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did rounding up the products included in this box.
What about you? Have you ever thought of making your own beauty box? Share your thoughts and let's all dream big together. After all, some dreams do come true. Spread the joy and have a happy holiday everyone!
